From this article:

Senator Mary Landrieu, Democrat of Louisiana, acknowledged the central complaint Republicans lodged against the bill — that it would create litigation and potentially onerous compliance issues for small businesses. But, she said, “where are these women supposed to go? What are they supposed to do, have an appointment with their congressman? Show the congressman their paycheck?”

Oh no!  Businesses might have to treat women like human beings!  By all means, let us honor the personhood of businesses and keep right on discriminating against 51% fucking percent of the population!

I just fail to understand why we’re coddling the almighty small business at the expense of basic worker’s rights. Why are all businesses more important than all women?

Republicans keep saying we need corporate tax cuts and low minimum wage and no mandated benefits because we don’t want to hurt businesses. But businesses make money from their customers. If there aren’t enough customers, the business won’t survive. When we pay employees less because of their gender and/or the color of their skin, we’re technically robbing other businesses of that income. People who are up to their necks in medical bills AREN’T spending that money in their local economy. People who barely make enough money to pay rent aren’t spending much money in their local economy. These policies rob both workers AND businesses.
